Jussie Smollett Indicted by Grand Jury on 16 Felony Charges

At this point, talking about Jussie Smollett is like beating a dead horse. We have all heard about the alleged attack against him which lead to him being investigated for plotting the whole thing. There was evidence that Smollett paid two men to attack him back in January and now it looks like the Grand Jury agrees that there are grounds to bring charges against Smollett for these false allegations.

Smollett first told police about the attack that allegedly took place on January 29th, he told them that he was attacked by two masked men, one also allegedly wearing a red hat. He said that the two men beat him while yelling racist and homophobic slurs, tied a noose around his neck and pour some kind of chemical on him. It was later revealed that Smollett paid brothers Ola and Abel Osundairo $3500 by check to stage the attack.

It was believed that Smollett staged the attack because he was upset about his pay working on the Fox hit show, Empire. Earlier today a Grand Jury came back with an indictment consisting of 16 charges of disorderly conduct, more specifically for fasly reporting an offense, which is a class 4 felony. According to the indictment, he is being charged with one count for each time he falsely reported the crime to two different police officers. Or in other words, he is being charged for every time he reiterated what allegedly happened to him. While this means that he could face up to three years in prison, chances are he will take a plea deal and not serve any jail time.

Smollett will appear in most of the remaining episodes of Empire season 5, but was dropped from the final two episodes of the season. It is unclear what the producers of the show plan on doing going forward. Fans of the show would like to see them recast the part of Jamal Lyon, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. We will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
