‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund of the WWE Passes Away!
‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund, longtime WWE staple, has passed away at the age of 76. His wife, Jeanne, was by his side and son, Tor shared his dad had been going downhill for quite some time now. Gene had received three kidney transplants in the past but no word if that was the cause of his death. He was known in the ring for much of the eighties and was sent over to the WCW in the nineties. Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Vice President of the WWE, released a statement via Twitter regarding his deep love and respect for Okerlund: “A voice and soundtrack to an entire era of our industry. He was the star of some of WWE’s most memorable segments. ‘Mean Gene’ was beloved by all who got to work with him. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.” Other notable stars such as Steve Austin and Ric Flair also took to Twitter to express their deep sadness about his passing. In 2006, Gene was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by Hulk Hogan. He will be sorely missed by many generations.
